As you may know, Tara was an avid proponent of the opportunities that pageantry provides to young women. She used her own pageant scholarship awards to finance much of her education and she encouraged other young women to do the same. She felt that the skills learned in pageantry led to positive things in many ways for young women. One of the last things that Tara did before she disappeared was to help a group of young ladies prepare for a pageant.

After Tara's disappearance, the Miss Spirit of Tara pageant was born in an effort to honor her beliefs in the positives that pageantry provides to young women. This year will mark the third annual Miss Spirit of Tara pageant and it will be held on June 28th in Tifton, GA at the Tift Historical Theatre at 7 pm. (pageant application)

The group that hosts the pageant is currently accepting donations to help offset the cost of hosting the pageant and to support the scholarship award that is provided to the winner of the pageant. Last years winner of the pageant was awarded a $3,000 scholarship. Tara would have been very proud. The scholarship award is determined by the amount raised and the amount available after all expenses are paid. In addition to the scholarship - other awards are provided to contestants in all age groups. These funds are raised solely to support the direct expenses of the pageant and to provide awards to the contestants that place.

If you would like to be listed on the "Friends of Tara" page of the program please mail your donation to arrive by June 17th as that is the print deadline.
